Mountain Rock Music returns as Sponsor as Hylton Prepares for Final Gateway Race
DESTIN, FL (July 25, 2006) -- Seventy-One year old racing legend James Hylton announced today that his number 48 Ford Taurus will be sponsored by Mountain Rock Music at the Shop n' Save 150 ARCA RE/MAX Series race. Hylton is running in his final season this year and the Shop n' Save 150 will mark his final appearance at Gateway International. During the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX season, Hylton finished 26th in his only previous start at the track.
Hylton Motorsport's sponsor, Mountain Rock Music is a publishing / recording company owned by long-time Hylton friend J. C. Weaver. During the eighties, Weaver's production efforts yielded a total of 12 songs that charted in the Cash Box Magazine's Top 100. Weaver is a performer in his own right and has been an opening act for such music superstars as Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty.
"I grew up with J. C. Weaver in Roanoke, Virginia and have been friends with him ever since" stated Hylton. "J.C. saw how good we ran at Pocono and called me with the sponsorship offer for the Gateway race".
"Gateway is a challenging track; especially turn four" stated the racing legend. "It's a track where the driver really has to stay focused."
Hylton began his racing career working for racing legends Louis Clements and Rex White in NASCAR. In 1966, Hylton set a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup record for the highest placing rookie with a second place position in the final season standings. During his career, Hylton went on to finish second in the season ending NEXTEL Cup standings two more times (1967 & 1971). During the sixties and seventies, James finished in the season ending standings top-10 an incredible ten times.
Hylton has NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victories at Talladega and Richmond as well as a NASCAR Grand American victory at Daytona.
Hylton has made 660 career starts in major sanctioning body races (ARCA, NASCAR, and USAC & IMSA) and has finished in the Top-5 147 times and the Top-10 309 times.
Hylton currently resides in 23rd position in the 2006 ARCA RE/MAX Series standings...
