Hylton Brings Home 26th in Final Milwaukee Start
Memphis TN (August 29, 2006) - Racing legend James Hylton finished 26th in Sunday's ARCA RE/MAX Series Governor's Cup 200 at the Milwaukee Mile. Hylton, driving the Mountain Rock Music / POP Kola Ford completed 181 of the races 200 laps. Hylton made history earlier this year at the Milwaukee Mile by becoming the oldest driver ever to compete in one of NASCAR's three upper divisions. Hylton competed in July's NASCAR Busch Series AT&T 250 in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned by North Carolina's Jay Robinson.
"Our weekend at Milwaukee was something else," states Hylton "we had a decent run for most of the day but we experienced some brake problem toward the end of the race. My crew and the Andy Belmont Racing crew pitched a birthday party for me at the track on Saturday. I can tell you there is nothing better than a racetrack birthday party and not a better place to have it at than Milwaukee. My marketing director John Bushy even brought a birthday cake with an icing picture depicting cars that I have driven throughout my career."
As a result of his finish, Hylton moved to 22nd in ARCA RE/MAX driver points. "At the start of the season I set a goal of finishing in the top twenty in driver points" said Hylton "If I can achieve this goal then I will be one happy man. I am definitely having the time of my life and I don't think Hollywood could script a movie of this season". The last top-20 season for Hylton was 1981, when he piloted the Palatine Parts Pontiac Grand Prix to a 19th place finish in Winston Cup points. The Milwaukee race was Hylton's tenth start of the season and represents the most ARCA RE/MAX season starts for one year for the driver.
"This season has been the most fun season that I have had in my career" states Hylton "all the drivers, crews and officials have been wonderful to me. This has a been a wonderful finish to my career. When I was just starting in the early sixties, I had no idea that I could do something I love so much for so long."
