DISAPPOINTING WEEKEND FOR MARKS IN IOWA
CONCORD, NC (6-4-07) With a career best ARCA RE/MAX Series finish of third at Iowa Speedway in October 2006, Justin Marks and the RAB Racing team returned to Iowa with the same car and a very similar set-up. But with the change in weather and a noticeably different track surface, the crew found themselves spending most of the practice adjusting the car to accommodate the change in conditions.
"We were good, but not as good as we had hoped to be," Marks said. "The biggest difference for us was the track itself. It turned out that it was a completely different surface after its first winter. Hoosier also brought a different tire and with the race at night, in very different temperatures, it made everything we learned here last year not really relevant. Robby in turn made some great calls and we were able to improve the car consistently throughout the practice."
With a 16th place starting position, Marks was able to battle his way into the top ten and remain there until misfortune struck the RAB Race team yet again. Marks was entering turn three when the car behind him lost brakes, collecting Marks, and unfortunately sending him into the turn four wall. The team was able to bring the damaged #65 Crocs Dodge into the pits to make repairs, but Marks lost five laps and settled with an 18th place finish.
"The car was pretty good and very consistent throughout the race. We didn't have a front-running pace, but we were solidly a top ten car. Ultimately, the race was another nightmare. We were running fine and were again a victim of circumstance when we were hit from behind. We are doing everything we can to run clean, smart races, but we seem to attract problems not of our making. After the initial impact, it was just a survival deal for us."
Justin Marks and the RAB Racing crew are back in the shop preparing for the Pocono 200 at Pocono Raceway Saturday, June 9th.
"I am excited for Pocono and Michigan. I enjoy racing at both of those tracks and I think we will have a good racecar. We just need to keep doing what were doing and hope our luck turns around."
The Pocono 200 is set to begin at 1:00PM ET and will be tape-delayed on SPEED Saturday, June 9th at 8:00PM ET.
