ANOTHER TOP TEN FOR LUSK
MOORESVILLE, NC (4-24-06) Damon Lusk, driver of the #65 Construct Corps Dodge, survived this season's first short track, taking home the seventh spot at Salem Speedway's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 by Federated Auto Parts, Sunday, April 23rd.
"The car was real fast at the beginning of the race," Lusk said. "We were able to get under guys in turn two, but knowing a wreck would eventually happen, we decided to be patient and hang out in order kept the fenders on the car. However, later in the race, the car really came to me and we were able to make good passes and eventually make our way to front."
"Once we got to the front, I was in 'cruise' mode in order to keep the tires on it. We were so fast and dominate at one point, I felt we were going to run away with the race."
Lusk continued to lead the field until issues with the right front tire caused him pit and fall back.
"We made our way to the front and led for a while until a blistered right front relegated us back a little, Crew Chief Robby Benton said. "An altercation with another car tore our tail loose and caused us to have to pit as a result of a black flag. After that, track position prevented us from being a contender to win. However, everyone knew we were there."
This was once again a good points day for Lusk and this entire BMR team who moved up another position to 3rd in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Driver's Championship points standings.
"I think that with this points situation, we are as strong or stronger than the two in front of us," Lusk said. "We've just got to be consistent and stay that way. It is frustrating to lose a race when you think you are the fastest, but we all did our jobs yesterday and in turn, closed in on the points lead."
"I am excited for the next few races, and once we get the first four races behind us, is when I feel like we can really go after this championship."
"We're looking forward to Winchester," Benton said. "We tested very well there and we are taking the same car we ran at Salem. We just need to continue being consistent and finishing in the top ten every week."
Pork Pole Qualifying for the ARCA 200 at Winchester Speedway is scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM, Sunday, May 7th. The Green flag for the ARCA 200 will follow at 2:30 PM.
