ROUGH START TO A TOP TEN WEEKEND FOR LUSK
Damon Lusk, driver of the #65 Construct Corps Dodge, took home his sixth top ten of the season in Saturday's Pennsylvania 200 at Pocono Raceway. Lusk's ninth place finish was enough to put him back up to third in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship Points standings.
Lusk's weekend started off rough when he cut the right front tire of his Dodge Charger in the first lap of practice causing him to make contact with the turn two wall. With damage to the right side of the car, the team spent the next hour of practice fixing the car, resulting in only completing six laps before the end of practice.
"I was excited for practice because I knew that we had a great car," Lusk said. "But, once I took off and was in turn two, the steering wheel got tight and the right front dropped. I did everything I could to keep the car off the wall, but when you cut a right front, you are pretty much guaranteed to hit the wall. We just got lucky it wasn't too bad to fix."
Though challenged with a wrecked race car, the BMR crew bounced back when Lusk qualified 5th, his best start of the 2006 season.
After a rain delay that pushed Saturday's race back an hour and a half, the field started under caution, but was able to complete all 80 laps. Lusk stayed in the top ten most of the day and on the last restart was passed by Billy Venturini, who was on fresher tires, resulting in a ninth place finish.
"I am happy with ninth. I knew coming into this race that we were going to be a car to beat. So to have hit the wall, and then to come back to qualify fifth and finish ninth, it shows the level of skill and maturity of this team."
The BMR crew is back in the shop getting ready for Friday night's Shop n' Save 200 at Gateway International Raceway. The Shop n' Save is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM ET and will air live on SPEED starting at 9 PM ET.
