CHUCK BARNES JR. TO RACE AT HISTORIC HICKORY MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Gets First Ever Laps In An ARCA RE/MAX Series Car
(April 12, 2006) -- 2004 CRA Super Series Champion and Roush Racing Driver X participant Chuck Barnes Jr. will make the long haul to Hickory, North Carolina to compete in this Saturday's Pass South event at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway. The WFMX 105.7 Easter Bunny 150 will be the inaugural event for the newly formed southern division of PASS, a template late model series with rules very similar to the CRA Super Series. The PASS North Series has been racing for several seasons in the Northeast.
Known as the "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars" and "The World's Most Famous Short-Track," Hickory Motor Speedway stands alone with a long list of history and tradition since 1951. The track has some one of the most prestigious lists of former champions anywhere in the country including Junior Johnson, Ralph Earnhardt, Ned Jarrett, Harry Gant, Bob Pressley, Jack Ingram, Tommy Houston, and current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Dennis Setzer. This does not include the list of famous drivers who have taken laps around the tight 3/8ths mile oval.
"I am really looking forward to racing at Hickory Motor Speedway this weekend," remarked Barnes Jr. "It one of those tracks you always hear about in racing especially in NASCAR. My family has always been big Earnhardt fans, so we are really looking forward to going to a track were their whole family has raced at."
"It is a long haul but it gives me an opportunity to race at a place that's in an area were doing well could possibly help me in my racing career. I don't have the sponsorship to race for a championship this year, so it looks like I'm going to just try to race the bigger late model shows in the country and places were we have an opportunity to do well with the CRA Super Series and at Salem Speedway."
Barnes will be traveling to Hickory Motor Speedway with fellow Louisville, Kentucky racer Greg Boone, who will also compete in Saturday's race. Other drivers currently entered in Saturday's WFMX 105.7 Easter Bunny 150 include fellow Roush Racing Driver X participants Jason Hogan and Travis Kittleston, late model legend Freddie Query, J.R. Norris, Ted Musgrave Jr., PASS North Legendary driver Mike Rowe, Cassius Clark, Jay Middleton, Dennis Schoenfeld and Tim Russell.
Barnes got his first laps ever in an ARCA RE/MAX Series car the past Monday at Salem Speedway. Barnes was helping the Frank Kimmel team test for their upcoming show on Sunday, April 23 at Salem Speedway. Barnes help shake down the teams second car which is being driven by rookie Ryan Foster. Barnes turned very competitive times in his first ever laps in an ARCA RE/MAX Series car, very close to Frank Kimmel's best times. Barnes finished second at Salem Speedway in the late model division this past Sunday to Will Kimmel, son of Bill Kimmel Crew Chief and brother of Frank Kimmel.
