George Jr. Finishes 16th at Chicagoland Speedway
JOLIET, Illinois. (August 27, 2010) -- Richard Childress Racing development driver Tim George Jr. finished 16th in the Ansell Protective Gloves 150 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards race at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday evening. George remains ninth in the 2010 point standings with five races remaining this season.
The Chicagoland race weekend began with a pair of practice sessions at the 1.5-mile tri-oval, and George was eighth at the conclusion of both sessions.
On Friday afternoon, the New York, N.Y., native posted a 30.859-second lap around the 1.5 mile tri-oval, at a speed of 174.989 mph, earning him a ninth-place starting position for Friday evening's 150-miler.
As the starting field drove to the green flag, spotters PJ Bryant and Scott Wimmer guided George around the 1.5-mile track. The RCR development driver was running seventh when the second of five caution flags was displayed on lap 32.
George brought the black, white and red No. 31 down pit road and quick work by team RCR helped George gain four spots, placing him in third position for a lap-43 restart.
Restarting third on lap 43, George raced anywhere from third to 13th during the next 20 laps of the race before a caution on lap 57 afforded George and the Gere Kennon-led RCR Development team the opportunity to make a second pit stop.
Pitting on lap 61 for four fresh Hoosier tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment, the RCR team restarted the race 12th on lap 63.
George made his way as high as seventh in the running order before slowly beginning to drop in the field, as changing track conditions affected the handling of his Chevrolet. He crossed the checkers in 16th position.
Patrick Sheltra earned his second-consecutive ARCA Racing Series victory over Steve Arpin, Grant Enfinger, Frank Kimmel and Craig Goess.
The next ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards race is the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Monday, Sept. 6.
TIM GEORGE JR:
"We used Austin Dillon's pit crew, combined with our guys, and that was a very strong combo. Those guys were on it, and I can't thank RCR enough for their efforts. I learned a lot this weekend about how track conditions affect the handling of these stock cars. The sun was out when the race started, and began to fall by the end of the race. As the temperatures cooled down, my car became much tighter."
