Another top-10 finish for Montgomery.

JOLIET, Ill. (September 9, 2002) -- Chase Montgomery earned his eighth top-10 finish of the 2002 ARCA RE/MAX season.

The 18-year-old rookie started 10th on the grid for the ReadyHosting.com 200 and led the field twice during the 134-lap event. After running in the top-10 the entire race, Montgomery was running 5th going into the final lap.

"We battled hard at the end," Montgomery said. "We could have had a top-five finish, but we got passed by Jason (Jarrett) on the last lap."

Although intermediate speedways are very familiar territory to Montgomery, the 1.5-mile tri-oval was a new experience for him. The #27 team didn't test at Chicagoland earlier this season, so Thursday was Montgomery's first time at the track.

"We weren't sure how well we'd do coming into this race. The crew stayed after it all day and did a great job of getting me in and out of the pits quickly and at the right times."

Montgomery and the ARCA RE/MAX Series head to Salem Speedway this weekend for the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200. Montgomery was the highest finishing rookie on the half-mile earlier this season.
