Hickory, NC 5/23/03 Through the rain and the mud and the muck, and hours of delay, the ARCA RE/MAX Series managed to get all 67 laps on the board at Lowe's Motor Speedway this morning, with Jason Jarrett finishing in sixth place. Jarrett moves into second place in the series point standings.
Several parade laps were run to help dry the track, and when the green flag came out, it also brought a yellow flag with it. Five laps were scored under caution before the green flag was thrown for the second time. The track was in such rough shape following several days of rain, that it was hard to find the right line to run.
"You can't get to where you need too, to drive the track; going in to turns one and two, and in three and four it's really bad," said Jarrett.
Jarrett managed to run in the lead pack throughout, staying in the top four until the last restart. The car seemed to handle better with some heat built back up in the tires. With just nine laps to go, Jason had some problems with the car getting tight going into the corners and then would be loose off; as a result he lost a couple of positions.
This race was the first outing for the brand new 2003 Monte Carlo, and with only one short practice session under their belts, it was difficult to anticipate exactly how the car would react.
The good news -
"We had as much motor as the leaders, and we were able to run with them until we got loose," said Jarrett. "We'll have to change the springs, and work on the set up a little, and we'll be competitive."
Following the race event at Lowes, everyone hurriedly got on their way for the 800 mile trek to Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan for tomorrow night's running of the "Pork the Other White Meat presented by GFS Marketplace 200 lap event set to begin at 9:15 p.m.
Jason Jarrett is the driver for the #67 Gladiator( GarageWorks/Damon RV sponsored, ML Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and is also a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family.
