Red Bull Driver Scott Speed Takes 8th in ARCA Cayuga race
In the ARCA RE/MAX Series only race north of the U.S. border, Red Bull's Scott Speed came from five laps down to finish eighth in Sunday's event at Cayuga Motor Speedway. It was Scott's eighth top-10 finish in 10 starts this season.
He anticipated a long afternoon north of the border. Eddie Sharp Racing recently held a successful test at Jennerstown Speedway , a .522-mile short track in southwestern Pennsylvania that's comparable to the .625-mile oval in Nelles Corner, Ontario.
The No. 2 Red Bull Toyota, however, didn't unload quite as sporty. Scott was 13th in practice and qualified eighth. The 250-lap race started off damp with rain delaying the green flag start and ended in frustration for Speed's Eddie Sharp Racing crew. Early in the race, Speed was tagged on the backstretch and sent spinning, resulting in five laps lost while the tow truck pulled the No. 2 Toyota out of the mud. Speed restarted in 25th, but was later the recipient of the Lucky Dog award earning his laps back and battling up to the 8th position where he ended his day.
Speed's eight-place finish was enough to keep pace with points leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Scott sits second in the championship, only 130 points behind Stenhouse.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series doesn't race again until the July 18 event at Kentucky Speedway.
Scott Speed: "It was a long day and we're just ready to put it behind us. We'll just look on to Kentucky now. We had a great run there in May and won that race three times before losing it under the third or fourth caution. And that was AFTER the race should have ended! We're ready to go back and get that win!"
