Atlanta testing set to begin
HAMPTON, Ga. (Feb. 23, 1999) Atlanta Motor Speedway shifts into high gear as several teams will be testing prior to the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500 weekend, March 12-14. Teams from all three divisions have scheduled practice times at Atlanta's 1.54-mile quad-oval.
NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Robert Pressley will participate in two days of testing for Jasper Motorsports on Feb. 23-24. LJ Racing's Steve Grissom and ST Motorsports' Mike Dillon will be joining Pressley for some valuable time on the track as part of the two-day test.
Drivers from Team Amick and Midwest Transit Racing, along with three other teams from the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division, take over the track on March 1-2 for testing prior to the Yellow Freight 300 race on March 13.
The Mayfield/Kranefuss ARCA team will test on Feb. 22. David Keith, Jeremy Mayfield's brother-in-law, will be handling the test that will prepare him for his run in the Johnson Industries/EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 300. This will mark the team's second test at Atlanta since the beginning of the year, however, there will be one difference this time as Mayfield will not be around to offer his assistance.
On Feb. 25, 15 ARCA teams converge on Atlanta for open practice. Christian Elder, Steve Senerchia, John Carpenter, Carl Long and Kevin Counsel are just a few of the drivers scheduled to take advantage of the practice time prior to the March 12 race.
