TOLEDO OH (6-16-06)--The ARCA RE/MAX Series, now in its 54th year of competition, is steering for Western Michigan, where the Sara Lee/GFS Marketplace 200 is slated to roll off at the .5-mile Berlin Raceway on Saturday, July 15, 2006.
The 200-lap event is race eleven of the 23-race ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, and marks the fourth short track event of 2006. The race comes on the heels of an exciting superspeedway leg of the series schedule, with visits to Pocono Raceway, Michigan International Speedway, Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway sprinkled throughout much of June and July.
Last year, 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie-of-the-Year Joey Miller, in a No.9 Country Joe Homes-Eagle Creek Aviation Dodge, rocketed to victory at Berlin over Michigan natives Brian Tyler and Tim Steele. The race that was lengthened by two laps to accommodate a green-white-checker finish.
Frank Kimmel is the all-time ARCA RE/MAX Series winner at Berlin, with three career wins. Other winners at Berlin include Bob James, Steele, Fred Campbell, Andy Hampton, Iggy Katona, Bob Keselowski, Bob Senneker, Harold Smith, Les Snow, Nelson Stacy, Ramo Stott and Don White.
The diverse, nationally touring ARCA RE/MAX Series, which competes each season on everything from superspeedways to dirt tracks, first began racing at Berlin Raceway in 1958. The July 15, 2006 Sara Lee/GFS Marketplace 200 marks the 19th time that the series has raced at Berlin.
ARCA RE/MAX Series teams begin converging at Berlin at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 15 for registration and hauler parking. The garage area also opens at 10:00 am. Cars take to the track from 2:00-3:30 pm for a practice session, followed by Pork Pole Qualifying at 5:00 pm. The Sara Lee/GFS Marketplace 200 rolls off at 8:30 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2006.
And the only way to see the action first hand is by buying a ticket to this short track thriller. With drivers such as seven-time and defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Kimmel, Four-time Daytona 200 winner Bobby Gerhart, and veteran ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Billy Venturini entered, the action is sure to be intense. Tickets are available by calling Berlin Raceway at (616) 677-5000.
Berlin Raceway is located five miles west of Grand Rapids on Interstate 96, exit 23. Then, go .3-mile south on 16th Avenue, then west to the Berlin Fairgrounds.
