Carter Earns Season Fourth Top 5 at Berlin
Marne, MI (07-29-08) ARCA RE/MAX series rookie Matt Carter scored a season fourth top five finish this past Saturday night at Berlin Raceway for the Berlin ARCA RE/MAX 200. The race event started with early afternoon qualifying runs, where Carter placed the No. 46 Hantz Group-Stine Seed Ford Fusion on the starting grid in the tenth position.
"We were pretty good when we unloaded and we qualified the car tenth", said Carter. "We ran in our qualifying spot for a long time. Then, we came in on a pit stop and made some adjustments. The car got better and we were able to catch a few guys there at the end."
When the checkered flag waved on Saturday night, Carter crossed the finish line in fifth place. "I am happy with our finish", said Carter. "We kind of struggled all day and all night really; it was a battle - not an easy fifth place. The car wasn't that good - it was off, but I think coming out of there in fifth place is a pretty good way to end the night when things weren't going quite right."
This was Carter's first time making left turns on Berlin pavement, which proved to be an enjoyable but different short track experience for him. "It's the weirdest race track I have ever been on", said Carter. "The shape of the track and the banking on the backstretch was different, but it was fun to race there - one groove on the race track and a lot of left turns. We had a really good crowd for the race - about 1400 people. Our sponsor, The Hantz Group, had a hospitality tent out there, so that was cool."
Carter and the No. 46 Hantz Group - Stine Seed Ford Fusion team will head to the Pocono's this weekend for the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. This is the second time this 2008 season that the ARCA RE/MAX series will take on the tri-oval at Pocono. The green flag is set to drop at 1 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, August 1. A Live Audio Broadcast and live timing and scoring will be available on www.arcaracing.com.
