TOP 10 FOR TOWNLEY AT BERLIN; MAINTAINS 7TH IN POINTS RACE

CONCORD, NC (7/28/08) SunTrust Rookie of the year contender, John Wes Townley, brought home his fourth top-10 of the season, finishing eighth in the Berlin ARCA RE/MAX 200 at Berlin Raceway on Saturday.

Townley took the green flag in his first ARCA RE/MAX Series appearance at the .44-mile oval in the 14th starting position. Sitting comfortably inside the top-10, Townley's night took a wrong turn when his No. 09 machine was tagged by another series competitor sending him into the turn four wall.

Townley brought the Zaxby's/BB&T/SPS/Saxon Group Ford down pit road to repair the damage to his right-rear bumper. Exceptional work from the RAB Racing pit crew kept Townley on the lead lap and the 18-year-old Watkinsville, GA native restarted at the rear of the field.

With 62 laps remaining Townley began his charge back to the front. At lap 174, Hinkein brought the No. 09 machine down pit road for the final time during a caution for 2 tires. Townley restarted in the 10th position and battled his way to eighth in the last six laps before the checkered flag was waved on the 200-lap event.

"The incident involving our car was unfortunate; we had a good run going," stated Townley following Saturday night's event. "Fortunately I had a solid car that, though damaged, allowed me to move through the field and bring home another top-10 finish."

The ARCA RE/MAX Series returns to action at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, August 2nd. Practice for the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. and SIM Factory Pole qualifying is slated for 1:45 p.m. on Friday, August 1st. Townley is seventh in the 2008 Championship point standings heading into the 80-lap event.

"I'm really looking forward to the race at Pocono," said Townley who finished 20th at the 2.5-mile triangle-shaped track on June 7. "We ran really well there earlier this year. We got up to third, but suffered a cut tire on the final lap that ruined our day."
