Jim Hollenbeck Ready to Tackle Berlin in a Different Way

Kalamazoo, Michigan - - Berlin Raceway, located in Marne, Michigan can be considered Jim Hollenbeck's hometown track. Located just an hour away from his residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan Jim returns to the tricky oval with better equipment and hoping for his first ARCA RE/MAX Series start of the season.

The rookie Hollenbeck Motorsports team have been snake bitten in two prior ARCA events this season. In May, Hollenbeck aimed for a debut at Toledo Speedway, but a mechanical failure during practice saw his Spectra Contracting Ford Taurus in the wall and headed home.

Two weeks ago, Jim Hollenbeck took his team to another level by attempting to make his Superspeedway debut at Michigan International Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 2 EAS-Myoplex Ford Taurus. After promising test results in May at the two-mile oval, the team looked to beat the times during race weekend. Unfortunately, the team encountered several obstacles which eliminated their practice sessions. In qualifying, Hollenbeck nailed the throttle picking up nearly a second (from practice) but it wasn't enough as he turned the 35th fastest lap time. 34 machines started the race on time trials speeds, referring Hollenbeck back to the quote "Close, but no cigar."

Hopefully, all the bad luck is out the window for the self-employed driver and he can "officially" start his season in Saturday night's GFS Marketplace 250.

"We haven't had any luck this year, yet," said driver of the number 2 car "We've got all new equipment, a new crew, and a driver who needs more seat time. We had high hopes entering the season, hopefully when we load up on Saturday night, there will be reasons to smile."

Hollenbeck completed in last years GFS Marketplace 250 with satisfying results. After teaming up with veteran ARCA owners Gregg Sarff (Spotter), and James Hylton (Crew Chief), Jim started the event 24th, stayed out trouble, gained valuable seat time and crossed the line 26th, completing 188 of the scheduled 200 circuits.

"Last year, we had an old car, and a really old engine, this year that's a different story. We have the same car that we took to Toledo, it's repaired, and I hope that the notes we have from the Berlin races in the past will be a benefit to our team this weekend."

Hollenbeck will once again team up with veteran team owner Wayne Hixson for the 11th race of the 2004 season. The 29-year old driver will be a teammate to long time ARCA competitor Joe Cooksey (No. 23 1-800-Servpro Chevrolet).

"Joining Hixson Motorsports for the remainder of our season is a real benefit to our rookie team. They have been in this business a long time, they've competed at Berlin before, and the crew is experienced, it's a win-win situation for all," explained Hollenbeck. "Ron (Cox) almost won this race last year with Hixson Motorsports, hopefully we can be in that same predicament this year."

Hollenbeck Motorsports, owned and operated by Jim Hollenbeck is still searching for sponsorship for this weekend's event. Spectra Contracting, which is owned by the second generation driver is currently listed as the sponsor, but the team encourages anyone interested in sponsoring the team to contact them for more information.

"We're Sponsorless for Berlin, but we are still going," exclaimed Hollenbeck. I encourage any corporations or companies looking to sponsor a team to please give us a call, I believe we have a solid program that will be dominate this weekend."

Sponsorship inquires for Hollenbeck Motorsports can contact the team directly at 269-382-6884.

The GFS Marketplace 250 is the 11th of 22 events on the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The teams will endure another one-day show this Saturday, July 3rd. Practice is on tap Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00pm, with qualifying on tap that afternoon starting at 4:30pm with the race set to take the green flag that night at 8:30pm EST. The Speed Channel will not broadcast the race, but ARCARacing.com will have the latest news and results available online.
