NOTES OF INTEREST:
More than 50 top-level teams with drivers from 17 states are entered for the 35th annual Atlanta ARCA 400. The Atlanta ARCA 400 (249 miles/162 laps) is the second longest race of the year for the ARCA RE/MAX Series, second only to the 300-miler at Talladega Superspeedway.
There have been 28 different ARCA RE/MAX Series winners in 34 events at Atlanta since 1984. Tim Steele is the last driver to repeat as winner (Nov '95, March '96 & March '97) at Atlanta. Steele, the all-time Atlanta/ARCA winner with 3, is the last driver to win on the old Atlanta track configuration in March of 1997. Steele is yet to triumph on the new track configuration.
Since the new Atlanta track configuration beginning with Harris DeVane's victory in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Reese's 400 in November of 1997, there have been no repeat winners.
That first race on the new configuration produced one of the most thrilling and closest finishes in RE/MAX Series history when DeVane, Frank Kimmel and Andy Hillenburg raced under the checkered flag 3 abreast. DeVane, a local Georgia peanut farmer, won by a margin of .023 seconds.
From the drivers entered in this year's race, only Steele, Kimmel and Bob Strait are former Atlanta ARCA winners. Three former ARCA RE/MAX Series champions are entered: Steele, Kimmel & Hillenburg.
Slidell, Louisiana Junior High School Principal Kim Crosby will make her career-first RE/MAX Series attempt at Atlanta. Ann Arbor, Michigan veteran Mike Buckley will be making his 100th career RE/MAX Series start at Atlanta while Jason Jarrett will be making his 50th.
