Spring Run, PA& ...
Spring Run, PA— More than 200 entries are expected for the final motorcycle race of the season at the Path Valley Speedway Park Saturday, Sept. 13. Riders include Jared Mees of Honeybrook, the top amateur rider in the United States.
Two local riders dominated the racing at the previous monthly motorcycle race Sept. 1 as Dane Delancey of Port Royal won two four-wheeler features and Austin Greenland of Spring Mills won three two-wheel bike events.
Delancey on his #6 Yamaha had raced his Quad in the weekly Saturday program with karts at Path Valley and he entered the tougher AMA sanctioned series to gain experience and won both the 4-Wheel 2-Stroke feature and the 4-Wheel Sportsman feature.
Greenland is 11 years old and the son of Ray and Karen Greenland of Spring Mills. In his second full season of AMA racing he has won at least one feature event in every race at Path Valley. At the last meet he won in the 100cc Modified class, the 85cc class for 7-11 year olds and the 65cc class riding both Honda and Kawasaki bikes.
Some of the other top competitors expected Saturday at Path Valley include 12-year-old past national champion John Lewis V of Brandamore in the 125cc and 250cc classes, Dallas Baer of Bethel in the 500cc class, Raun Wood of Dublin in the 600cc classes, and Bailey Spence of Rising Sun MD in the 4-6 year old classes.
The top amateur rider in the nation, Jared Mees of Honeybrook, won the 600A feature at Path Valley on his #20 Rotec at the last Path Valley AMA race. Showing versatility on short-track, TT and half-mile racetracks, Jared Mees took home the top national award after a week of racing at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships held in July in Lawrenceburg and Indianapolis, Indiana. Securing his goal coming into the country's top competition for youth and amateur dirt-trackers, Mees won the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award after winning overall titles in two classes during the event.
This is the final race of the season for flat track motorcycles in the American Motorcyclist’s Association (AMA) Region Six and all of the riders from the region and adjoining regions are expected at Path Valley, according to AMA director John Winsett of Two Wheel Promotions. Gates open at 10 a.m.
Some 250 bikes and four-wheelers from seven states raced Sept. 1 at the Path Valley Speedway Park with the American Historic Motorcycle Racing Association (AHMRA) and their antique bikes as special guests.
AMA riders race for regional and national points and may enter more than one class and race in any sanctioned event across the nation in classes ranging from 55cc oil injected for 4-6 year olds to professional flat track racing. Information on AMA membership is available at the track.
The 2001 Path Valley season concludes Oct. 20 with the season’s final Junk Car Race and rules for this growing trend toward minimum budget racing are available at the track and on the website at www.pathvalley.com. That growing fun class races low-cost to no-cost junk cars in four-cylinder, six cylinder and V-8 categories.
The Second Annual Path Valley Speedway Park Combined Awards Banquet will be Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Pleasant Hall Fire Co. with doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 and limited to 400 and available from the track on a first-come first-sold basis.“ Dodies” will cater the meal and the entertainment will include DJ Phantom Shadow and awards to the top drivers in every class. Less than 50 tickets remained following the Four-Cylinder Shootout.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike off Route 75.
