Carmichael Wins THQ World Supercross GP Championship
Tedesco Clinches Second Career 125cc Western Regional Championship

SEATTLE (April 16, 2005) -- Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael, of Havana, Fla., won his first THQ World Supercross GP championship with two races to go. Kawasaki's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., won his second career THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series main event in front of 49, 532 fans at the first-ever race at Qwest Field. Kawasaki's Ivan Tedesco, of Murrieta, Calif., won his second consecutive 125cc Western Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series championship. KTM's Nathan Ramsey, of Menifee, Calif., won his third 125cc Western Regional main event of the season.

Stewart earned the $1,500 Butterfinger Holeshot Award with Carmichael in tow. Yamaha's Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., crashed hard in the first turn and started in last place. Honda's Kevin Windham, of Centerville, Miss., passed Carmichael for second place on the last lap. Carmichael still has a 30 point lead in THQ AMA Supercross Series points.

"I have to thank Clear Channel for this championship," said Carmichael. "This championship means a lot to me and I look forward to the rest of the season. The THQ World Supercross GP championship was the only one I have not won, so I am excited for this opportunity."

"I had 20 solid laps out there," said Stewart. "I am not scared of any of these guys and in that first turn, I am not moving over for anyone. I am sorry Chad (Reed) was knocked down, but I am not backing down."

Ramsey earned the $1,000 Butterfinger Crisp Holeshot Award in the 125cc Western Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series main event, leading his teammate Jay Marmont, of Murrieta, Calif., through turn one.

On lap 8 Ramsey lost the lead after crashing in the whoop section, allowing Honda's Andrew Short, of Murrieta, Calif., to move into the lead. Ramsey remounted and passed Short for the lead and the win. Tedesco started in fourth place and finished in third, clinching the title with one race left on the season.

"I wanted to ride smart tonight and go for the championship," said Tedesco. "I needed to ride smart and that's what I did. I want to get another win next weekend to close out the season."

"The track was sketchy tonight so I had to be smart," said Ramsey. "I crashed tonight but I like to do things the hard way," said Ramsey.

The Next race takes place at Houston's Reliant Stadium Saturday, April 30. Tonight's race airs on ESPN2 tomorrow April 17 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
