AURORA, Ill. (December 4, 2003) - Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division released the 2003-2004 supercross race track designs for the THQ World Supercross GP / THQ AMA Supercross Series.
Dirt Wurx, the official track builders of supercross and Todd Jendro, director of supercross, Clear Channel Entertainment -Motor Sports, have been designing and developing the 2003-2004 supercross track plans since the completion of the 2003 season in May.
This year's track designs will incorporate the traditional mix of jumps and obstacles, along with some modifications intended to increase the competitiveness of the circuits, while enhancing the entertainment experience of the fans. Some of the more noticeable changes will be the addition of long sweeping start turns at several venues and modifications to the "rhythm sections" to open up the tracks for greater passing opportunities. Several of the approved track designs will have acceleration lanes that cover the length of the stadium floor with no obstacles, which will open up greater opportunities for acceleration and braking point passing.
"This year's program will again include one event with the 'split start' that was debuted at one of last year's Anaheim events and the addition of elevated start lines at select venues," said Todd Jendro, director of supercross, Clear channel Entertainment - Motor Sports. "The track designs that have been completed by Dirt Wurx for 2004 will also feature more 'off-camber corners,' which are designed to test the skills of the world's greatest supercross riders. By taking a page from the past, together with the designs that have helped establish supercross as the 'original extreme sport,' it is clear that this year's racing will be some of the best ever in the 30 year history of the sport.
"Our goal with this year's track designs is to open up the tracks' lanes and turns to allow greater opportunities for passing. By combining a mix of the very technical obstacles that are common with the sport today, along with some of the better designs used in the past, we are confident that the excitement level at this year's races will be greater than any past season. We've listened to the recommendations of the teams and riders and have come up with designs that balance the desires of the riders with the expectations of our fans. It's going to be a great year!"
