THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross Series makes triumphant return to Salt Lake City.

AURORA, Ill. (February 26, 2002) - THQ World Supercross GP and the AMA Supercross Series return to Salt Lake City's Rice-Eccles Stadium for the third consecutive year on Saturday, April 26, 2003, featuring Boise, Idaho-native Danny Smith, who rides for Team Suzuki.

Since the inaugural stop in Salt Lake City in 2001, more than 80,396 fans have made their way through the turnstiles at Rice-Eccles Stadium, averaging 40,198 per event.

During the first visit on April 28, 2001 more than 42,000 fans attended the event at Rice-Eccles Stadium, with 80 percent saying they would return if a race were scheduled in 2002. Furthermore, 90 percent of out-of-town visitors said they had traveled to Salt Lake City exclusively because supercross was in town. The end result: A $7.8 million economic impact on the city.

"The significant economic impact and television exposure Rice-Eccles Stadium and the state of Utah received are clear illustrations of the tremendous value of hosting a world-class sporting event like THQ World Supercross GP," said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. "Events like this help to grow and diversify our sports industry."

Utah even has a supercross star of its own: Cassidy Anderson of Provo, who has been climbing the ranks since his amateur days. Anderson, who raced at the Salt Lake City Round of supercross last year, is a multi-time Utah State Racing Association champion.
