Huntsville, Ala. -- In conjunction with NHRA officials, AMA/Prostar and NHRA will be restricting gasoline usage to specific allowed fuels. After laboratory tests taken from several Pro Stock teams were reviewed, NHRA concluded that some teams are using fuels with additives considered extremely hazardous to racers, their crew, race officials and the general public.
As the result, effective 8/3/99, all competitors in AMA/Prostar Pro Stock Bike competition must use only accepted fuels per the current AMA/Prostar fuels list, which will be available to competitors at each event and will be posted on Prostar's website.
The only fuels accepted currently include VP (C19, C25, C32, C34), Unocal 76 Race Fuel (76 Pro, 76 Pro Stock Plus), and Sunoco Max.
Both NHRA and AMA/Prostar will be monitoring fuel samples carefully at their respective events, and each competitor must identify fuel being used to fuel check personal. All normal fuel test procedures will be in effect.
The fuel suppliers will provide fuel samples to both sanctioning bodies to establish current fuel base lines, and will be retained to match fuels being utilized at each event.
Any fuel found to have been altered, tampered with, or modified in any way, will result in severe penalties issued to both the team owner and competitor. Penalties may range from suspensions, to loss of points, to monetary fines.
