Jesseman clutches 12-point lead going into Pontiac.
AURORA, Ill. (April 1, 2003) - As the 125cc Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Series heads into its final race of 2003 at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich., Suzuki's Branden Jesseman holds a 12-point lead over Kawasaki's Mike Brown.
Jesseman, who has led 30 of the 90 laps this season, has finished on the podium at five of the six races, earning three wins (Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and St. Louis). Last weekend in Houston, the Fombell, Pa., rider showed up bruised and battered, finishing a season worse fourth place.
"I crashed hard at the practice track last Wednesday," said Jesseman. "I have abrasions on my back, under my arm and on my chest. I'm in a lot of pain, but nothing is going to stop me from winning this championship."
Brown, the 2002 motocross national champion, has one win on the season (Daytona) and three additional podium appearances. Yamaha's Brock Sellards, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, is also in the championship hunt, earning two wins on the season, including last weekend's race in Houston. Sitting five points behind Brown and 17 behind Jesseman, Sellards has led 43 laps.
