Spring Run, PA_ The Path Valley Speedway Park has chosen to formally release the 2002 season racing schedule at the Chambersburg Mall Racing Show Jan. 17-20.
The first two races of the season will be Saturday March 16 and 23 for stock cars and sprints, and then the track will shift gears to the usual Friday night series for the seven regular weekly divisions starting March 29. The Path Valley Karting season opens Sat. afternoon March 30, and the first AMA sanctioned motorcycle race is that evening.
Two Wheel Promotions, which operates Path Valley, chose the Chambersburg Mall show for the schedule’s first peek because,“ So many of our fans and race teams are from this general area between Hagerstown and Harrisburg,” according to Promoter Ken Geesey.
Schedules and 2002 rules will also be available at Dirt-Trackin’ 2002 at the York Fairgrounds January 25– 27, and again at the huge Motorama 2002 show at Harrisburg’s PA Farm Show complex Feb. 15– 17.
Track officials and owners will be present during all three racing shows to answer questions on the 2002 schedule and the new rules, both of which will be available on the track’s website at www.pathvalley.com. Stock cars, sprints, karts, flat track motorcycles and even the new junk cars will be on display at the late winter racing shows, along with a vast display of photos from last season’s racing action.
The newly reorganized PA 305 Sprinters will headline the action at Path Valley every other week in 2002. The self-starting 600cc Sprints and the high-tech 270cc Sprints share top honors every week with the INEX-sanctioned Legends Cars that produced two national 2001 champions, Harry Garber of Barto and Allen Felix of Shippensburg. The regular stock car classes are the V-8 street stocks, modified mini stocks and four-cylinder thunder cars.
To accommodate all the cars that want to race on the steeply banked clay quarter mile, each class will race in a four-week rotation with the fifth week off, and that allows time on the program for guest classes that include Cyclones, Dwarf Cars and 358 Late Models.
For information on the 2002 schedule and track, race teams and fans can call the owners at 717-426-4756 or 717-426-2910, consult the website at www.pathvalley.com, or they can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111. The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike.
