Spring Run, PA_ American Motorcyclist Association bikers ended their season at the Path Valley Speedway Park Saturday with multiple wins for several exciting young riders.
Bailey Spence of Rising Sun MD won in the 55cc for 4-6 year olds, the 100cc stock class and the 55cc oil injected.‘ Awesome’ Austin Greenland of Spring Mills won features in the 100cc modified class and the 85cc 7 to 11 year old class, and John Long of Coatesville won in the 65cc class. All of the younger riders earned trophies sponsored by C&S Cycles of Chambersburg.
In the faster adult AMA-sanctioned classes Chris Klinefelter of Owings Mills MD won in 250A and John Lewis V of Brandamore won in 250B.
Raun Wood of Dublin won in 600A and Joe Dohm of Red Lion took the honors in 600B. National amateur AMA champion Jared Mees of Honey Brook won the Sportsman feature while the 30-Plus win went to Dallas Baer of Bethel and the 40-Plus win went to John Winsett of Bainbridge. All are in contention for Region 6 AMA championship points.
Among the 97 entries the biggest single field was in four-wheeler two-strokes and Kevin Bures of Latrobe beat out his brother Kris by a few feet for the win.
The 2001 Path Valley season concludes Oct. 20 with the season’s final Junk Car Race and rules for this growing trend toward minimum budget racing are available at the track and on the website at www.pathvalley.com. That growing fun class races low-cost to no-cost junk cars in four-cylinder, six cylinder and V-8 categories.
The Second Annual Path Valley Speedway Park Combined Awards Banquet will be Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Pleasant Hall Fire Co. with doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 and limited to 400 and available from the track on a first-come first-sold basis.“ Dodies” will cater the meal and the entertainment will include DJ Phantom Shadow and awards to the top drivers in every class. Less than 30 tickets remained following the final AMA race.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike off Route 75.
