Parker and Lewis lead winners at Path Valley AMA Amateur Nationals

Spring Run, PA_ Susan Parker of Lebanon and John Lewis V of Brandamore carried the home track banner with five wins between them as motorcycle and four-wheeler riders from a dozen states converged at the Path Valley Speedway Park Saturday and Sunday for the AMA Northeast Amateur National Championships.

On her #8 Yamaha Parker won both the four-wheel two-stroke and the four-wheel sportsman features for her Black Arrow Racing sponsored prizes.

Young Lewis, a past national amateur champion on smaller bikes, won all three features for the 250cc bikes on his #21 Honda sponsored by ABBA Services.

Among the visitors to AMA District 6 from out of state, Patrick Jacobsen of Montgomery NY on his #99 Honda won in two different classes of 65cc bikes.

Following a bike rodeo Sunday sponsored by Roxy's Cycles, the TT Scramble was into the first heat races when a violent thunderstorm flooded the infield portion of the TT course, forcing track operators Two Wheel Promotions to use the Memorial Day rain date Monday.

Nearly 150 riders from as far as Kentucky and New Hampshire registered for the AMA Short Track portion of the three-race series of Northeast National Championships.

Three motorcycle and quad races in three distinctly different styles compose the 2002 AMA Dirt Track Amateur Nationals. The short track race May 25 and the TT Scrambles postponed to May 27 at Path Valley continue on Sunday June 2 when Two Wheel Promotions will stage the half-mile race at the famed Hagerstown Speedway.

To enhance the Northeast Amateur National, Promoter Ken Geesey has added a strong field of sponsors for both weekends. Black Arrow Racing is the general sponsor for the Saturday short track race at Path Valley. Roxy's Cycles sponsors the Sunday Bike Rodeo and Pig Roast, and Bromley Suzuki sponsors the TT Scramble. Additional cash, merchandise and contingency sponsors include East Coast ATV of Palm PA for the quads and flat track races, M&S Cycles of Chambersburg for the kids race trophies and medals, and Gas Custom Signs of Waynesboro, Chilcote's Custom Pain of Chambersburg, arrow Cycle Transport of Spring Run, and R.D. Greenland and Son Masonry of Spring Mills.

ABBA Services and Two Wheel Promotions are the general sponsors of the half-mile race at Hagerstown on June 2 and additional sponsors include Schaeffer's Harley Davidson, Bromley's Suzuki, Action Motorsports, B&B Cycle, Appalachian Harley Davidson, Roxy's Cycles, M&S Suzuki and Honda, Lexus of Cherry Hill, Susquehanna Harley Davidson, and AD Leathers of Hagerstown.

The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111. The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike.
