ERION RACING LOOKS TO END THE 2008 SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
Orange, Calif....Looking to end the 2008 AMA Superbike season on a high note, the Erion Racing team is ready to head for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., for the Corona AMA Superbike Finale, September 27-28.
Running in the AMA Formula Xtreme Series and the Pro Honda Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, aboard their Parts Unlimited, American Honda, Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals, Erion Racing Honda riders Jake Zemke and Josh Hayes both are totally focused on winning.
Zemke, who clinched the Formula Xtreme Series at the last round at Road Atlanta, is eager to once again tackle the world renowned Laguna Seca track.
"I love racing at Laguna," says the Northern Californian with obvious conviction. "It is both a technical and challenging course. To get a fast lap, you really have to get it all right and that is part of the fun. It is also my home track and winning this race would be very special. All my friends and family will be there and I can't wait. We raced in the Pro Honda Supersport Championship here earlier in the season and I finished second. This time I am aiming for a first in both series."
But so is his teammate Josh Hayes. Battling back from a slow start this season, Hayes turned things around at Mid-Ohio and has won five of the last six events and now sits in second place in Formula Xtreme and third in Supersport.
"The point spread in the Formula Xtreme battle is close," says the Gulfport Miss., resident. I am holding down second by just five points. A win will guarantee that I come in second giving Erion Racing the top two positions. In Supersport, Jake is in second and I am in third. If we can't take the overall victory, we plan to at least bring home two of the top three positions. I've done well in the last three events and I'm hoping that my lucks holds at this round. Laguna hasn't been too good to me as of late, but I figure this time out it is my turn to do well. It is one of the toughest tracks on the circuit, but I think I have all the needed ingredients for some smooth sailing this coming weekend."
"With the Formula Xtreme title safely tucked under my belt, I can pretty much race without any worries," continues Zemke. "I'm going to just put my head down and ride as well as I can. My job is to win and hopefully I will be in front when the checkered waves for both races. If the Supersport title should fall into our hands, that would be awesome. All we can do now is let the cards fall where they may."
"Jake has done a great job for us this season," says team owner Kevin Erion. "He brought home our seventh Formula Extreme title (1997-2000, 2006, 2007 and now 2008) and we are very proud of him. Both Jake and Josh are excellent racers and both know what it takes to win. I think we should be in good shape for this last race and our entire team is looking forward to ending the season on a high note."
