Carmichael's 10th Win In A Row Moves Him Closer To Record Books Can Carmichael Tie McGrath's Records?

AURORA, Ill. - Two of many records held by Team Mazda Yamaha's Jeremy McGrath are in jeopardy in the 2001 season of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed stick. Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's Ricky Carmichael can break McGrath's two records: most wins in a season and most in a row.

In 1996, when there were 15 250cc races on the tour, McGrath won 14 Main Events. Moreover, he won 13 straight races before being stopped by Team Kawasaki's Jeff Emig at St. Louis, Mo., at the Trans World Dome. McGrath, who is a seven-time supercross champion, made the record books with his fourth title, but his title is at risk with three races remaining.

Carmichael, 21, won his 10th Main Event in a row last weekend in Pontiac, Mich., his 11th on the year. As the series rounds out the season with the last three events (Dallas, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas) Carmichael can share both records with McGrath.

"Right now all I am concerned about is winning the title," said Carmichael. "After that, it's all about the record books."

The dominance of McGrath over the last eight years has taken supercross to a new level. With 72 career wins, a record in the sport that is long from being broken, McGrath has become the Michael Jordan of supercross. Ricky Johnson is in second place on the all-time win record with 28 wins, which seasons the point that McGrath is the greatest supercross rider ever. Currently, Carmichael has 12 wins in 250cc competition in three years.

EA SPORTS Supercross will culminate in Las Vegas on May 5th, with round 16, which will be featured live on Pay-Per-View. For more information, contact your local cable provider. The April 21st Texas event will air Sunday April 22nd on ABC at 5:00 p.m. ET, and the Salt Lake City April 28th event will air Sunday the 29th also on ABC at 5:00 p.m. EST.
