Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit Kawasaki Continues Domination with Top Podium Spot in Atlanta
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad returned to the Eastern Region for round two of the East series inside Atlanta's Georgia Dome, and the PC team was immediately fast, with riders Christophe Pourcel and Austin Stroupe putting down the two fastest qualifying times before going out and winning both Heat races.
In the main event, Stroupe took the holeshot and was followed by his teammate Pourcel for most of the race. Stroupe pulled away from Pourcel early, but then stalled his bike on the 10th lap, handing the lead to Pourcel. Pourcel went on to take his second victory of the year and extend his lead in the Lites East points standings.
"I'm happy, for sure. I can't say much more than that," Pourcel said. "He [teammate Stroupe] was very fast at the beginning of the race, and I was pretty surprised about that. He did the triple on the track that was pretty dangerous, and I didn't want to do it, so he pulled away there, and he was riding really good. Then, after seven or eight laps, he caught a lapper, and I found my speed in the whoops and started to catch him. Then, he made the mistake for me, so it was easy after that."
Stroupe got back going again in eighth place and fought his way back up to seventh at the finish.
"I did what I wanted to do," Stroupe said. "I got the holeshot and checked out, but I just made a little mistake -- I braked too early and just stalled it. That put me behind. The race was over. That was lap 10, and it took me a while to get ready. It was over and there wasn't much I could do. They were all pretty much gone, so it was over by that point."
If he wants to be in the championship hunt again, Stroupe has some work cut out for him.
"I'm here to win every race," Stroupe said. "These next six races, I want to win, so I'll be doing some work to get back in the hunt."
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team heads to Indianapolis' brand-new Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend for round three of the Lites East.
"What a great way to introduce Terminal Velocity to the South!", exclaimed Terminal Velocity Processing's Marketing Director, Joe Parsons. "Atlanta was a great weekend for us, not only on the racetrack, but with the local businesses we spoke with in regards to maximizing their merchant services accounts ."
