The Racer's Group prepares two cars for the Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington D.C.
SONOMA, Calif. - July 17, 2002 - After first and third place back-to-back GT class wins for The Racer's Group at the past two ALMS races, the team is ready to take on the first-ever Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington D.C. on July 19-21. The Racer's Group will field two cars; the Le Mans-winning Porsche 911 GT3 RS will be driven by team owner and driver Kevin Buckler and professional driver Brian Cunningham. The second car will be piloted by professional drivers Michael Schrom and Darren Law.
Buckler has had an exciting 2002 season, capturing a class win at Le Mans and the Rolex 24 at Daytona and his first ALMS class win at Mid-Ohio.
Schrom and Buckler are co-drivers in the Grand American Road Racing Series, where the they are the highest points scoring GT team this season. When Schrom isn't taking to race tracks around the country, he runs his own production company in New York City where he performs as director and cinematographer filming television commercials for advertising agencies worldwide.
Law drove with The Racer's Group in the team's No. 66 car at this year's 12 Hours of Sebring race. He has enjoyed many wins and awards throughout his driving career including first place in the 2001 Grand Am GT driver championship and five poles and nine podium finishes in the 2000 Grand Am season.
Cunningham has had a successful racing career. He joined BMW Team PTG for the inaugural 1999 ALMS season, securing the win in only his second race. During the 1999 and 2000 seasons he was the lead point scorer with BMW Team PTG and completed his first ALMS season finishing second in the GT driver championship. In 2000, he was again the highest points scoring BMW driver.
"We're really excited for this race. It's been a phenomenal season so far and we hope to continue with a good finish in D.C. this weekend. Having Darren and Michael in the second car is a great addition to the team," Buckler said of the upcoming race.
