Portland, Oregon, September 8, 2000 - Olivier Beretta and Karl Wendlinger will start the eighth round of the American Le Mans Series at Portland from pole position for the sixth time this year. Tommy Archer was second fastest in the number 92 Dodge Viper, recording a time just two tenths of a second behind.

"I was driving very fast during that session," said Beretta who completed just three laps. "We have a little problem with grip here, especially after last year when we raced in hotter weather. We are here and our strongest competitor isn't, which is a pity. However, we are professional drivers and will treat this race as any other."

Archer, who shares with American David Donohue, was pleased with his time. "The car was not much fun this morning but we made some changes and I went through one set of curves faster this afternoon than I have done all weekend. We have made big strides forward. The main thing for us is that we have a very driveable car for tomorrow."

Pierre Dieudonné, Sporting Director of ORECA, said: "I think that Tommy did a very good job for qualifying and there is not much between the two cars."
