HIGHCROFT RACING IN P5 AFTER QUALIFYING SESSION AT 5th CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND IN SALT LAKE CITY
LMP2 CLASS DOMINATES TOP 7 POSITIONS
With a top lap time of 2:20.369, Stefan Johansson took P5 in Thursday afternoon's qualifying session in Salt Lake City. It was a tight battle between the two Porsche teams and three Acura teams, with Penske taking the top two spots, the Acuras in P3, P5, and P6 (Lowe's Fernandez, Highcroft Racing and Andretti Green, respectively) and Dyson coming in at P4 and P7. Highcroft came in ahead of all the P1 cars, including the two Audis (P8 and P9.)
Johansson commented that "considering we lost a lot of testing time yesterday, we're very pleased to be in the top 5. It can be hard to recover; you always want to do two to three changes. But, we beat last year's top race time by three seconds, without any testing, so we're definitely heading in the right direction. Plus, we usually do better in the race than in practice, so let's see what happens tomorrow."
To prepare for tomorrow's race, Brabham, who hit the track today for the first time this season, "visualized the track as best I could before I arrived and watched in-car cameras and footage of last year's race. Because I was really watching the lines, by the time I got back in the car, it didn't take me too long to get back into the rhythm."
Tomorrow, with a promise of even warmer temperatures, should provide an interesting race. It will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, May 20th at 1:00 pm, EST.
