SELLERS PREPARED FOR MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK, MOTIVATED TO RUN PORSCHE RSR
ATLANTA, GA -- July 6 Bryan Sellers is heading to Utah with his Team Falken Tire crew to run at Miller Motorsports Park for the next round of the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron (ALMS) in the Larry H. Miller Dealerships 2010 Utah Grand Prix. Sellers is prepared, determined, and is no stranger to the heat or the competition that Miller Motorsports Park can bring.
The schedule of the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron had a large gap in it, due to teams traveling abroad for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, but Sellers made the most of his time. Between testing, racing, and driver training, Sellers has logged invaluable seat time, and is ready to race.
Since the last race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the 2010 American Le Mans Series Monterey Presented by Patron, Sellers and his team, Team Falken Tire, have tested at Road America and Miller Motorsports Park -- both upcoming venues for the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron. "Testing is hugely important for our program," said Sellers. "It was our first real chance since the Series test at Sebring to re-evaluate our tires and development process." And Sellers knows the importance and value of preparation and additional seat time before any event. "We were able to not only run through multiple tire combinations, but were also able to fine tune set-ups before going to the venues for the race."
While testing has been a great opportunity to develop the Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Sellers has been actively and successfully racing as well. Says Sellers, "There is no substitute when it comes to training for a race, than to actually race. Everyone else has been racing and if you sit out, you fall behind the curve." To stay ahead of the competition, Sellers competed in two races of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
The first race, the Continental Tires 150 at Watkins Glen, showed Sellers' speed and agility in qualifying. Sellers took the pole position in his No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 Coupe, after turning in a time of 2:03.783 (98.883 mph), breaking a year-old track record. It was Sellers' first career Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge pole and the second of the season for the Trim Tex/Weathertech BMW M3. Sellers led for almost half of the race until the pit-stop strategy took the team out of first, but still secured them a top ten finish.
The second of the two races, the EMCO Gears Classic, was held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course -- another track listed on the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron schedule. After his teammate qualified the No. 07 Euro Motorworks Racing Porsche 997 car and posted it into ninth place, Sellers was able to take the green flag and once again show his fantastic ability to maneuver through traffic and take his favorite spot -- at the front of the grid. Sellers continued to have a great race --setting the fastest race lap- until a mechanical gear failure ended the day early for the team. The experience and seat time was not lost on Sellers. "Competing in other races, such as the two Continental Tire races I did, allows me to keep race-craft sharp, keep reaction time and responses up and most importantly helps me stay in race shape. You can train all you want, but there is no substitute for actually being behind the wheel, especially in the summer when the heat is up."
And there is no question that the heat will be up at Sellers' next race at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for the Larry H. Miller Dealerships 2010 Utah Grand Prix. Once again, Sellers will be back racing in his Team Falken Tire Porsche with teammate Wolf Henzler. While this will be the first time the team has competitively run this car at Miller Motorsports Park, Sellers is confident that the team is going in strong. "I have raced at Miller Motorsports Park in a BMW (ALMS), Porsche GT3 (GRAND-AM) and Porsche 997 (Koni Challenge/Continental Tire). I am looking forward to running the RSR this year because it does everything the other cars can do - only much better."
After testing at Miller Motorsport Park, Team Falken Tire has plenty of data and track experience to be a significant presence among the competition in the GT Class. "It will be our first race at Miller in the [Falken] Porsche, but we did test there last year as well. So going back to test again this year, we were really able to judge how far we have come. We have grown so much as a team...I don't think there is anyone who can be unhappy with the progress we have made -- but more importantly, how motivated we are as we continue to move forward." Sellers' motivation and dedication to constant improvement, along with his team's commitment to excellence and preparation, is a sure equation for success.
Sellers will take the green flag in the Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR on Sunday, July 11 at 2:35pm. The 2010 Utah Grand Prix will be broadcast on SPEED TV the same day, staring at 4:30pm EST as well as on live at RadioLeMans.com.
