TRANS-AM JAGUAR DRIVER TO COMPETE IN AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES
Buffalo, NY (July 11, 2002) - Paul Fix II of Buffalo, NY, will make his American Le Mans Series sports car racing debut in the series' upcoming Canadian race. The current Trans-Am racer will drive a Prototype in the LMP 675 class.
Fix's first American Le Mans Series race will be Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, on August 3, and he will also compete in the Trans-Am Series BF Goodrich Cup on Sunday August 4th.
Fix will co-drive with veteran racer Melanie Paterson of Toronto, Ontario, in a Lola B2K-Nissan fielded by Essex Racing of Atlanta.
"This is a great opportunity to race an ALMS Prototype car with an experienced team. Melanie and I will make a great team, we have known each other for a while and we are both expecting a very successful weekend. We both have a lot of endurance racing experience and this will give us a great advantage," said Fix.
Paul has been running in the Trans-Am since 2001, and had a great rookie season, resulting in 1 top 10 finish, 3rd place in rookie points, 19th Driver's Championship Points and 6th in Owner's Points. Paul presented the best overall rookie performance for 2001. For 2000, the year brought Paul to the Motorola Cup Series in a Mustang Cobra R, driving in the Grand Sport division. In 1999, Paul made his first professional FIA effort in the Canadian Challenge GT Cup. Paul began his racing career in 1989 in SCCA club racing. Paul has always been a part of high horsepower cars and this Prototype with 500-plus horsepower should be a perfect fit.
Melanie has been racing Formula Fords, her racing background includes go karts and Legends cars, and she has tested in Indy Lights, Formula Atlantic and Formula Palmer Audi machines. She has tested in the Prototype but the Trois-Rivieres event will be her first racing experience in the 500-horsepower car. However, she been testing in high-horsepower cars, so she will be well prepared.
Paterson will be one of the few women who have competed in the American Le Mans Series, a series of North American sports car races based on the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans.
