PATRON HIGHCROFT RACING IN TOP THREE AFTER QUALIFYING AT THE ACURA SPORTS CAR CHALLENGE OF ST. PETERSBURG
The Patron Highcroft Racing #9 Acura ARX-0lb's strong performance during both practice sessions on Thursday culminated in a third-place starting position on Friday for tomorrow's one-hour, 55-minute street race. With Audi in the top spot, Patron Highcroft Racing sits snugly between the two Penske Porsches in second and fourth place.
David Brabham, with a top speed of 101.72 miles per hour, qualified the Acura and said about the car's performance this week, "The setup was good right off the top. The team had a really strong base package for [co-driver] Scott [Sharp] and I to work with today, and Scott did a great job in practice. Because we were running in the top three all day, I was looking for a little bit more when it came to qualifying, but it was challenging for me to get a perfect lap out there." In addition, Brabs bent the front wing slightly on the curb during the qualifying session, which slightly affected his downforce. However, he continued, "Given who we're up against, we're pretty happy with this result. We've got a good race strategy and will look to find our rhythm out there tomorrow."
Scott Sharp, who drove the bulk of the morning session, said, "We had a really good starting set up. We were working on some small handling issues that we fought at Sebring. We came out of the box really well and we had good speed throughout our practices. Obviously, traffic was the problem -- getting a clean lap was pretty tough. We made very good progress today and ending up in the third position is a strong start for us."
