Farnbacher Loles Porsche to start on front row in St. Pete for ALMS round 2
4.3.09 St. Petersburg, FL - For the second consecutive race, the #87 Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche will start from the front row for the American Le Mans Series at St. Petersburg, Florida. Wolf Henzler turned a lap of 1:13.173 in the 2009 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, which was good enough for second place on the starting grid. Henzler, who broke the track record last year on the St. Petersburg street circuit, was only .281 off the pole position set by the Ferrari of Jaime Melo. Following closely behind Henzler was Joey Hand's BMW, which seems to have gained some speed since the opening round at Sebring.
Henzler was reflective after the session: "We made a change after the second practice, since I wasn't completely happy with the way the car felt. It was better but I couldn't get the lap I wanted on my third lap, which should have been the fastest, the red flag came out for an incident on the track when Pat Long hit the wall. Unfortunately, by the time we went back out, the tires were past their peak."
"Overall, the car feels very good. I have to thank the crew who worked really hard, they made a number of changes so we could try different things. For tomorrow we'll be ready - the Ferrari is very quick, and the BMW has improved, so the race should be very close."
Henzler's co-driver Dirk Werner was in the car during practice: The car feels good here. We've been making some adjustments today, and we'll probably do a little more adjusting before the race. But all the GT2 cars are very close- the Ferrari and BMW are both very good. It will really come down to strategy and doing a good pit stop."
Henzler and Werner will be carrying ABC in-car and rooftop cameras for Saturday's race.
