WHAT A FEELING: DRAYSON ECSTATIC WITH FIRST LOLA LAPS

"Fantastic! It's really a brilliant car!"

So exclaimed Drayson Racing principal/driver Paul Drayson after his first meaningful laps in the team's new Judd-powered Lola B09/60 LMP1 coupe that will make its debut this week at the 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6. The American Le Mans Series' 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic at Road Atlanta is a daunting but welcomed challenge for the Drayson team.

When last American Le Mans Series fans saw Drayson - the UK's Minister for Science and Innovation - and teammates Jonny Cocker and Rob Bell, the team campaigned an Aston Martin Vantage GT2 at Sebring in March. But the team announced in August its move to the LMP1 ranks, and the Lola-Judd will be one of 11 LMP1 entries at Petit Le Mans - tying an event record.

Drayson Racing competed with the Aston Martin last year at Road Atlanta but naturally all the sensations are completely different - sight, sound and speed.

"The sightlines are definitely different for sure," Drayson said. "Amazingly you do have better visibility out the front and side windows (the windscreen wraps around a larger distance on the coupe). You can see out the rear much easier as well through the mirrors, which sit higher than the bodywork (compared to the door mounts on the Aston)."

The 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6 on Saturday, September 26 is the American Le Mans Series' cornerstone event at Road Atlanta in Braselton Ga. The green flag for the 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET with SPEED airing live television coverage starting at 11 a.m. ET ... rain or shine! American Le Mans Radio presented by Porsche and Living Timing & Scoring will be available on Racehub at americanlemans.com. Live coverage also can be heard on Sirius 126 and XM 242. You can follow the Series on Twitter (almsnotes) and on our Facebook page.

The race will also mark the ninth round of the 2009 MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge. Tickets are available at americanlemans.com and roadatlanta.com.
