Terry Borcheller will add another coveted car to his resume this week, when he drives the No. 35 Risi Competizione Ferrari 360 Modena GT in the 51st annual 12 Hours of Sebring. The Phoenix driver will team with Ralf Kelleners of Germany and Anthony Lazzaro of Acworth, Ga. The classic endurance race is the season-opener for the American Le Mans Series.
"I really think it's going to be fun trying to knock the Porsches off the top of the podium. If anyone can do it, the Risi team can. I think we can give them a run for the money," Borcheller said. "It's always exciting to be in a car or an organization that can win. I know the car will be the best-prepared Ferrari out there."
it starts with one race ...
The 12 Hours of Sebring has been good to Borcheller. He won the GTS class in 2001, and went on to win the ALMS GTS driver championship that season.
Borcheller will add two speaking engagements to his busy Sebring race week. He will speak to students at the Sebring high school and to a youth rally at the Sebring Baptist Church. This is the fourth year he has met with both groups, representing Motorsports Ministries.
"I don't ever feel I can give back for what God has given me, but I really want to inspire other people, especially young people, to be able to live their dreams," he said. "I love racing and I love winning, but the highlight of my weekend is to hear a young person say, 'What you said really affected me' or 'I've dreamed about doing this and I didn't think it was possible, but hearing you, I think I can do it'. Things like that are really encouraging for me."
Qualifying for the 12 Hours of Sebring is scheduled for Thursday, March 13 from 1:50 pm to 2:55 pm. The 12-hour race will start at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 15.
The ALMS Radio Web (www.imsaracing.net) will broadcast qualifying and the race live on Thursday, March 13 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm and Saturday, March 15 from 9:30 am to 11 pm. The race will be telecast live on Saturday, March 15 on SPEED Channel from 10 am to 11 pm. (all times ET)
