Raised in an equestrian family, Hugh Plumb learned about horsepower at an early age.
Plumb was quickly riding toward a career involving horses, but soon found that one horsepower was just not enough for him.
Both parents are Olympians -- his mother competed in the 1968 games in the three-day equestrian event and his father has competed in a record setting seven games. His father was just inducted into the hall of fame for competing in the most Olympic Games ever.
He chose dirt bikes over horses and then moved to road race bikes.
He won championships in both Super Sport and AMA Super Bike and scored 25 wins in his first three seasons.
After college he pursued the world of sports car racing.
In 1998 he purchased his first race car and entered the SCCA World Challenge Championship where he spent the next four seasons. "I bought a BMW in 1998 looking to do a few World Challenge races and won my third race. After that year I knew I did not want to run my own team, but that I wanted to stay in World Challenge. I moved on to Realtime Racing in 1999 and even with the change from rear wheel to a front wheel drive Acura I was competitive."
"I like the strategy of endurance racing," commented Plumb. "Conserving tires, fuel management, pit strategy and co-driving requires a different skill set than sprint racing, but it is just as exciting for me as the flat-out, no holds barred thrill of a one hour race."
Away from the track Plumb is avid mountain and road bicyclist and enjoys water-skiing and physical training.
Plumb will compete a full season with PK Sport in the American Le Mans Series as well as the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series driving in a Porsche Cup car.
