SEBRING, Fla., March 13, 2003 -- Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing set the fourth quickest time in today's final-round qualifying for Saturday's 51st Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. Johnny Mowlem, who had regularly placed the car in the top-three of every practice session, set the time of 2 minutes 7.613 seconds on his ninth lap in the #31 Westward Ho Casino/ MMPIE/ PAWS/ Justice Brothers Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Mowlem was not able to duplicate the car's quick-time of the week, a 2m 06.203s lap, set earlier in the day due to heavy traffic that prevented him from getting a clear, flying lap.
Mowlem reflected on his qualifying run: "I couldn't get a clear lap until my last lap. Then it was too late really. It was just not a case of traffic; no one would get out of my way even if they were on a slow lap."
The Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Porsche crew now turns its complete attention to competing in the 12 Hour endurance classic\ that is scheduled for a 10:30 am (EST) start on Saturday, March 15. Four practice sessions remain in preparation for the event including a one-hour night practice this evening from 8pm -- 9pm and a Saturday morning race warm-up. The team expects no major changes to the #31 Westward Ho entry prior to the race when Nic Jonsson and Craig Stanton will join Mowlem behind the wheel of the Mike Petersen-owned and Dale White-prepared Porsche.
Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing began operation in the late 1980s competing in off-road endurance events. The duo of White and Petersen joined to win over 50 off-road truck victories including three-consecutive overall wins at the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 and four SCORE, SNORE and SODA championships.
