PANOZ CONTINUES TO RUN STRONG WITH ALL-AMERICAN TRIO

Panoz Motor Sport's sole remaining "Spirit Of America" LMP-01 Evo continued to run at a strong pace at half-distance of the 50th Anniversary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Dodge.

The Bryan Herta/David Donohue/Bill Auberlen car was in fourth place after six hours, trailing the leading Audi trio.

With Herta back behind the wheel for his second double-stint of the day, the #51 machine continues to stick to its race plan of targetting a race finish for the three Panoz debutantes.

"The car is really consistent over the entire stint, I was really surprised by how little the pace drops off," Herta said.

"Michelin has done a really great job with the tire. I was expecting the car to be more of a far more of a handful towards the end of the double-stint.

"David and Bill have done a great job in their stints and we are pushing ahead with our goal of getting this car home.

"Twelve hours is a long race and anything can happen. The Audis look pretty strong, but anything can happen in the next half of the race."

Bill Auberlen will be next to climb aboard the #51 car when Herta completes his current stint.

"I've now had the chance to do plenty of laps under race conditions and really get a feel for how this car works," Auberlen said.

"The car feels really strong throughout the entire stint and I am starting to understand how hard I can push through traffic.

"Having not driven the car before this week, I needed to learn how close I could follow up behind somebody to try to get a run off the corner, without loosing the air off the front and getting big understeer."

The Audi of Dindo Capello, Johnny Herbert and Christian Pescatori held the lead at half distance - completing 173 laps. <pre> RESULTS AFTER SIX HOURS 1. - Capello/Herbert/Pescatori - Audi R8 - 173 laps 2. - Biela/Kristensen/Pirro - Audi R8 - 173 laps 3. - Wallace/Lammers/Johansson - Audi R8 - 172 laps 4. - Herta/Donohue/Auberlen - Panoz Motor Sports - 169 laps 5. - Matthews/Smith/Goossens - Riley & Scott - 168 laps
