Michelin teams thrive on rapid pace for long, hot Sebring race.

The 51st running of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring was hot and very fast, one of the fastest in the history of the event. It was the perfect kind of race to showcase the Michelin advantages of speed and endurance. And Michelin teams took full advantage taking the first seven positions, 10 of the top 11, and leading every lap. The race leaders ran a very aggressive pace, consistently lapping in the 1 minute 51-52 second range with the Michelin front runners regularly double and even triple-stinting tires to gain even more track position.

The race ran over nine hours before the first and only caution flag flew. The Michelin equipped #7 Bentley turned the fastest lap of the race at 1:49.521 seconds, while the Michelin fitted #1 Infineon Audi; #38 Champion Audi and #8 Bentley all had lap times between 1:49.642 and 1:49.746 seconds, a gap from first to fourth of only .225 thousandths of a second.

Michelin Sebring Milestone
JJ Lehto and the ADT Champion Audi did the honors on a notable piece of Michelin history when, by leading on Lap 258, he marked 5,000 consecutive miles of Sebring competition led by Michelin equipped teams. The streak began in the closing stages of the 1999 race and was followed by wire-to-wire victories in 2000; 2001; 2002 and now 2003. The current Michelin Sebring record is now slightly over 5,400 consecutive miles of competition led.

GT Class Streak Continues
The defending ALMS Series GT Class champions #23 Alex Job Porsche team and drivers Lucas Luhr and Sascha Maassen continued their mastery of Sebring, combining for their third consecutive Sebring victory. Finishing second, in their first race with Michelin, was the #31 Peterson Motorsport/White Lightning Porsche of Johnny Mowlen and Michael Peterson
