SEBRING, FL, March 15, 2008...After four hours of racing, Kumho and VICI Racing are fifth in GT2.
The VICI team has had a trouble-free run so far, and ran as high as second early in the race, picking up track position when some other teams pitted during a full course caution.
"We stayed on our strategy and moved up into second, which got some nice TV time for Kumho and our other partners," said Craig Stanton after his first stint in the car. "I'm sure my Mom's going to call me and tell me how many minutes we were on TV. But the car feels good. The traffic's not bad, so we'll just keep soldiering on."
Nathan Swartzbaugh climbed into the Porsche after Stanton and survived his first-ever stint in the Twelve Hours of Sebring.
"There were two times where an Audi went by and forced me into the marbles," he said. "It's typically not that big of a deal to go out in the marbles, but here the buildup is so fast and the marbles are bad. You want them to catch you in a straightaway, but it doesn't always work that way. The other guys in our class are so fast, so it's difficult just to hold your own. It's also so hot out there, so I'll keep drinking plenty of fluids and try to stay focused."
LG Motorsports has been experiencing some issues with its new Corvette. A power steering problem early on cost the team three laps in the pits, and the car has been behind the wall twice to deal with an oil issue.
Notes: VICI Porsche driver Craig Stanton has had some previous experience with Kumho tires. "I've done a couple of NASA and SCCA club events on Kumhos and they were great," said Stanton before the race. "I also tested one of the spec Boxsters out west on the Kumho V710 DOT race tire and I thought they were brilliant. I liked the way they turned in, they had good mid-corner bite and they had good forward bite. It was a very manageable tire." "Michelin has had a stronghold in this arena with the Porsche RSRs, so it's great to have another vendor. I'm really optimist about Kumho Tire and Porsche.
