JML Team Panoz duo charge into top ten at Sebring.
JML Team Panoz pulled out the best ever Sebring 12 Hour result for the Panoz marque in the history of the American Le Mans Series today with both cars finishing in the top ten.
Olivier Beretta, Max Papis and Gunnar Jeannette finished in 5th place aboard the #10 Panoz LMP-01 while Scott Maxwell, John Graham and Benjamin Leuenberger joined them in the top ten aboard the #11 car in 9th place.
Since the debut season of the American Le Mans Series in 1999, the best Sebring 12-Hour result the Panoz brand had ever achieved was 8th last year.
The last time two Panoz cars finished in the top ten was in 1998, prior to the commencement of the ALMS.
The #10 Panoz ran faultlessly throughout the 12 hour event, while the #11 car did suffer some delays with brake problems and heat problems in the driver's footwell.
Maxwell, Graham and Leuenberger all suffered minor burns to their feet, forcing them to only do single stints.
The result is a major boost for the team which suffered a set-back recently with team owner and technical director, John McLoughlin suffering a stroke.
"I am very happy for the team to get this result because everybody has worked so hard over the winter and even harder this week.
"John (McLoughlin) may not have been with us today we are delighted to pull off this result for him. Gunnar and Max drove very well and it is a great start to our year.
"We had one Audi behind us and to do that is really like a win for this team. Bentley and the Audi teams have a lot of money and resources and we are only a small team - so everybody is delighted with the result."
"We are the only team to split Audi and Bentley and that means a lot to this group because our program actually started quite late.
"I am really proud of the job that everybody did. We proved that we have a lot of will and great determination.
"The Michelin tires worked very well and that was one of the keys to our success. Now we have to head home, regroup and look at what we have done well, where we need to improve and set our sights on Le Mans.
"Fifth place is a great result and I have really enjoyed the day."
"We certainly can't complain about a result like this. The car ran faultlessly all day and we are really happy to start the season with a 5th.
"Olivier, Max and I worked really well together and I am delighted to finish my first Sebring 12 Hour.
"This will really give the team a huge boost as we start to work on our plans for the Le Mans 24 Hour."
"I am really pleased for the team because we got two cars together in a short space of time and got both to the finish in the top ten.
"It was great for the lead car to finish 5th and we are pretty pleased to bring our car home in ninth. We had a couple of problems with the brakes and the heat in the footbox was fairly severe and Ben and I were burning our feet whenever we got in the car.
"Other than that, it was a pretty smooth run. The Michelin tires were great and the engine ran really strong, so we now just build on that and work towards the next race."
"To finish ninth in my first Sebring is just fantastic. The boys did a great job with the car and I have to thank my co-drivers - they really helped me a lot this weekend.
"We had some problems with the temperature in the footbox where we all burned our feet. That made it really tough out there and we are not sure what caused it.
"But now we have got to the finish we are just so happy with the result."
"It was a long day because it was very hot out there but the team did an incredible job to get both cars across the finish line in the top ten.
"We had brake problems and the pedals where heating up really bad. To have only the factory Bentleys and Audis ahead of us is a real credit to this team."
