March 13, 2006 - Sonoma, CA - The Flying Lizard Motorsports team arrives in Florida today for their third consecutive Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring endurance classic. This year, the two-car GT2 team hopes to best their 2005 third-in-class podium finish by Johannes van Overbeek, Jon Fogarty, and Darren Law in the team's No. 45 Porsche.
Sebring kicks off the 2006 10-race ALMS season. It will be the first race for the Lizards this year, together with a newly revamped GT2 field that makes up nearly half the cars in the race and spans five manufacturers, including Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, and Panoz. "This is an extremely important race, both in points and in setting the pace and tone for the year," said Tommy Sadler, Flying Lizard crew chief. "It's great to see a 16-car GT2 field for the first race of the season. Having new competitors in our class this year will definitely keep things interesting. Sebring is a tough way to start the year: it's 3.7 miles of bumps, sand, and grit, and traffic can get ugly. It's hard on the drivers, the cars, and the crew, and really shakes out the field, fast."
In addition, the Lizards announced that Marc Lieb, a Porsche factory driver since 2003 and GT2 winner at the 2005 24 Heures du Mans with Alex Job Racing/BAM!, will join Johannes van Overbeek and Jon Fogarty in the team's No. 45 Porsche. Sister car No. 44 will be driven by Darren Law, Seth Neiman, and Lonnie Pechnik. Lieb is looking forward to driving with the Lizards at Sebring, "After running against the Lizards at Le Mans last year, I was impressed by their commitment and attention to detail; it certainly showed in their podium finish. This will be my fourth Sebring race and I'm excited to get a chance to drive with Johannes and Jon. It will be our first time driving together, but we have complementary driving styles and I think we'll make a great team." This will be the first ALMS race in which a Porsche factory driver has joined the Lizard squad.
