First recipients of New Century 'FastQual' Award.
SEBRING, FL. - Drivers JJ Lehto, Ron Fellows, Marino Franchitti and Timo Bernhard were the first recipients of the newly-created New Century Mortgage FastQual Award, a competition that made its debut in last weekend's Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
New Century Mortgage Corporation has expanded its sponsorship within the American Le Mans Series and will present the New Century Mortgage "FastQual" Award to the fastest qualifier in all four classes of competition at all races for the ALMS in 2004. The award will also be presented to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race in each class.
Lehto, driver of the ADT Champion Racing Audi R8, was fastest qualifier overall and in the LMP1 class. Fellows drove the Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C5-R to the GTS class pole, while Franchitti led the way in the LMP2 class in the Rand Racing Lola B2K/40-Nissan. Bernhard, driver of the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, was fastest qualifier in the GT class.
Each driver received $1,000 from New Century Mortgage in pre-race ceremonies, along with a FastQual Flag. The four racing teams received FastQual pennant flags to be displayed in their team pits for the season.
New Century Mortgage has been designated an Official Sponsor of the American Le Mans Series as the Exclusive Mortgage Corporation. New Century's new official relationship with the ALMS expands its presence in the series, which also includes primary sponsorship of The Racer's Group Porsche driven by Patrick Long and Cort Wagner.
The New Century FastQual Award is named for the mortgage company's "FastQual" technology for the automated underwriting of loans. New Century Mortgage will leverage its sponsorship of the ALMS with various consumer-related programs that will be announced at a later date.
The next race for the American Le Mans Series will be June 25-27 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
