"We had a Porsche test at Sebring last month and I was comfortable with the setup we worked out. Right from the beginning this week, our speed was good and we improved every time from session to session. We were fastest in the third session and that showed me we could be competitive this weekend. It made me pretty optimistic for the race. After practice, I thought perhaps we could have a chance to qualify in the first five cars and finish in the first four.
Qualifying showed that the car was very, very good on one lap. It was really satisfying to see that we, as a new team, could compete against all the good teams. We showed we have good speed and we can prepare a good car. I qualified third in GT2, but the prototype qualifying session stopped early because of a crash, so unfortunately, the qualifying times didn't count. We had to start sixth, based on our fastest practice time.
After qualifying, the preparation for the race went very well, so no problems.
We had a very, very good race start. I moved up to third and I could go the speed of P2 [second place] to the end of my first stint. Then we had an awesome pitstop, where we took second position in GT2. The speed of the car was pretty good, so I kept second position through the second part of my stint. Everything went well; everybody was happy how it worked out. Then Marc and Bryce went in the car and both did a good job.
My second stint went obviously badly. On a restart, a Ferrari hit me, broke the suspension and I couldn't continue. The accident is something that can happen through racing, so perhaps he couldn't avoid it. I'm just very sad for all the guys who worked so hard to bring the car to Sebring, to bring the car to a point where it performed so well we could run for a podium in the race.
Now the car is damaged; there is a lot of work before the next race. You can imagine the atmosphere right now is not really good. I think the best thing is to not look back any more, just let the race pass by, then look for the next race to come.
Although the first race didn't go the way we wanted, I'm still looking forward to this season because of what we saw in Sebring. I think we have a chance in nearly every race to go on the podium. It's a great series, Porsche took a big step to improve the car this year and our team is getting better and better with the car. I think, 'Don't be sad, just look to the next race."
