Porsche endurance racing specialist Darren Law has been tapped to join Seth Neiman and Lonnie Pechnik in the #44 PortalPlayer/ShoreTel Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche GT3RSR for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring American Le Mans Series weekend. This year's event, which takes the green flag on March 18, marks the 54th running of the classic once-around-the-clock race, and fans will once again be treated to the spectacle of machines and drivers pushed to their limits in a daylight to darkness test of speed and endurance.
Busy for 2006
Although Sebring marks the opening of the American Le Mans Series season, Law has already been fulfilling the needs of a very busy 2006 race schedule with full time Porsche powered rides in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and the Grand Am Cup. Law will compete in no less than thirty endurance races this season. In his quest to earn valuable points for the coveted 2006 Porsche Cup competition, Law has filled in any gaps in his schedule that he could, and was happy to accept an offer from the "Lizards" to drive the team's immaculately prepared Porsches in six separate American Le Mans Series events this year.
Law was able to shake down the team's car at a recent January test. Darren immediately ran competitive times, and was duly impressed with the performance of the car. In addition to making sure that he gets solid test time behind the wheel, Law has prepared for the 2006 season by ensuring that he is in peak physical condition. By following the strict workout guidelines set forth in his training program developed by Carmichael Training Systems, Inc., Darren is approaching this busy 2006 season in some of the best shape of his life.
Quotes -- Darren Law
I'm very happy that the Lizards asked me to join them for a few races this year. This season the GT2 class will be tougher than ever, we have BMW, Ferrari and Panoz to compete with. I have had a great run with the Lizard team having helped them to a 2nd place in the championship in 2004, and we finished 3rd at the Petit Le Mans last year. Now in their 3rd season, the team is working together well. We have brought on an additional engineer, and I am excited about our chances. Considering the length of the race and how hard the track is on drivers and cars though, you just never know what is going to happen. It is going to be a very busy season for me, and I'm focused on getting the best finishes possible for the teams I'm with, and I'm also going to be trying to secure as many points for the Porsche Cup as I can.
The 2006 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring is scheduled to take the green flag at 10:20 am EST Saturday March, 18. The race will be broadcast live on the Speed Channel.
