ROBERTSON RACING GOING GLOBAL TO END 2009
This is the start of a busy and globe-trotting month for Robertson Racing. The silver Ford GT-R and its Road Atlanta-based crew will travel nearly 20,000 miles between now and early November when its 'world tour' finishes. There are three races in that span, starting with Saturday's 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6, where the husband-wife duo of David and Andrea Robertson along with David Murry will contest the 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic.
After Road Atlanta, it's off across the country to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., for the Monterey Sports Car Championships - the four-hour American Le Mans Series season finale on October 10. Then the fun really begins with a drive back to Georgia and a quick turnaround to get the Ford GT-R ready for a flight to Japan for a pair of three-hour races at Japan's Okayama circuit on October 31 and November 1.
In all, the team will have five days - at best - to sort the car after its return to California.
"It will be a fun trip," said David Robertson, a retired commercial pilot. "I've never been to Japan - I've flown over it a few times delivering planes from China and Taiwan over the polar routes to Alaska and then Detroit. So it will be something new for all of us."
The 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6 is Saturday, September 26. The American Le Mans Series' cornerstone event at Road Atlanta in Braselton Ga., is a 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic. The green flag is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET with SPEED airing live television coverage starting at 11 a.m. ET. SPEEDtv.com will air live streaming of qualifying staring at 2:25 p.m. ET on Friday, September 25. American Le Mans Radio presented by Porsche and Living Timing & Scoring will be available on Racehub at americanlemans.com. Live coverage also can be heard on Sirius 126 and XM 242. You can follow the Series on Twitter (almsnotes) and Facebook.
The race will also mark the ninth round of the 2009 MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge. Tickets are available at americanlemans.com and roadatlanta.com.
