Alex Job Racing had mixed fortunes during the first half of the 1000-mile, 10-hour Petit Le Mans, final race in the 2002 American Le Mans Series.

Timo Bernhard started the No. 22 McKenna Xybernaut Porsche from the GT pole position, but was passed by his teammate Sascha Maassen in the No. 23 Porsche after 20 minutes, then was forced to pit with a left-rear tire failure at 50 minutes. Jörg Bergmeister took the wheel and moved up from ninth to third. He handed over to Marc Leib at 2h25 and Leib moved to second. Bernhard took the final stint at 3h30 and encountered oil problems within 10 minutes. The engine failed at 4h10 and the No. 22 trio were out of the race.

The No. 23 Porsche held the class lead through the first five hours of the race except for 10 minutes after a pit stop. Maassen drove the first hour, then alternated stints with Luhr.

Jörg Bergmeister "Again some bad luck for us, like almost the whole season. The bad thing is that I had more laps than Timo so I got the extra point [so the two did not tie in final series standings], and that's what I didn't like. But overall it was a good season for us, first time for me in the ALMS was good fun. Hopefully we can improve next year."

Timo Bernhard "The whole weekend we had problems with the car. We couldn't solve the problem of the rear tires so we tried to slow down. When we got that and it worked okay, the engine made some problems. The luck was missing in this championship. All the other championships were great - like Le Mans, Daytona, I won both - but in the ALMS we had no luck. It's very disappointing for Jörg and me."

Marc Lieb "I feel sorry for the two guys [Bergmeister and Bernhard] because I think they're pretty good drivers. It's good working with them, it's good working with the team. I enjoy it a lot and it's really sad we didn't finish the race because I think we had a good place."
