Team CytoSport Muscle Milk squad impress at Road America
Elkhart Lake, WI, Saturday, August 15, 2009 - Team CytoSport placed their #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder fourth on the LMP2 grid for tomorrow's American Le Mans Series race, but it was the team's performance in practice that caught the attention of everyone.
Before heading into the 20-minute qualifying session, the duo of Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf topped the LMP2 practice charts for the first time and placed third overall aboard their Porsche RS Spyder in only their second weekend of activity in the ALMS' LMP2 category.
Graf, who was behind the wheel of the Muscle Milk car for qualifying, came out strong and jumped to first in-class on only his second lap. A couple of laps later the Team CytoSport driver would register what would be his fastest lap of the session.
Unfortunately for the pair, the #6 Muscle Milk car lost a bit of its performance as it headed into qualifying and the lap time of 1 minute 51.922 seconds initially placed Graf third in a very competitive LMP2 class. By the time the checkered flag fell on the session, the German had dropped a position and had to settle for fourth place in-class and sixth overall.
Klaus Graf, Qualifying driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder
"The car was very, very good in practice. We made lots of changes after the morning practice and that allowed us to make real good progress in the afternoon session. With MM Car at RA the car handling well we didn't change anything heading into qualifying. Once qualifying got underway, we had lost a little bit of our performance in the high-speed corners. We had some understeer and that unfortunately cost us a couple of tenths. I am happy with the effort.
"It was nice to be first in practice this afternoon and we turned a lot of heads once again but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves and get too excited. The guys did a great job preparing the car and I know for sure we have a very good racecar. Greg also improved his lap times a lot and is doing a fantastic job. Everything is very encouraging and I look forward to the race tomorrow."
Greg Pickett, Owner/driver
"I'm very pleased with today. The guys are doing a great job with the car. Klaus is once again driving spectacularly and I'm feeling more and more comfortable in the car. This is a very fast track and it becomes very important to stay focused and I'm happy with the way things have been going for me. We had a really good practice session and its unfortunate that we lost a bit of it in qualifying. But we're confident heading into the race tomorrow."
